Skyfoil Frameless Parafoil Kite X Kites

Rather than repeat the book jacket's description, which was accurate, I will tell you why I like this author's writing. This book lives up to his previous two. I'm waiting for more. Unfortunately I finished this one in 8 leisurely hours. His writing has a tendency to get me to do this.

SHORT CHAPTERS:
This is not a preference of lazy readers, but a nice means of completing a scene, so you can digest it. Also does make for great breaking points when the real world interferes in your reading.
STUFF IS WRAPPED UP:
Many writers introduce a bunch of things that when the story is all done just hang unanswered. In this book as in the author's previous two books, you have your answers.
SCIENCE IS OUT THERE, BUT EXPLAINED:
Okay, a breach, or worm hole is out there, artifacts way out there, but in the context of the book it is all explained.
BOOK STANDS ALONE:
As the author's previous book (Ghost Country) which I read before his first (The Breach) it stands alone. You get enough back story even if you have not read the first. There were a few references, that were not well explained (the Blackbird), that even if you had read the others, you would still be sketchy as it has been sometime, but for the most part, you have what you need. However I would say it is more fun to know the backstory.
GRADUALLY TEACHES YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Just like David Brin (Uplift Series, The Postman) does in many of his books, you are gradually taught what you need to know; to understand the universe you are being dropped into. This is a real skill. You get told what you need to know, when you need to know it, but not in a lecturing fashion.
GREAT WRITING:
The story moves along, you get the characters, why they do what they do. You also can anticipate some things. This is a cool thing that some great authors can do to make you feel smart. Dan Brown (DaVinci Code) is a master at this.

  1. I bought several parafoil kites for the nephews (ages 6 - 10)to take to the beach this summer. I worried that it would be a big disappointment with them not being able to get them to fly, but they were up in no time. Even the youngest was able to fly his kite without any help (Make sure you attach the tail or you will have problems) No frame makes them fold back down and fit right back into their bag for storage. They come with a spool of kitestring, but you will need to provide a dowell or stick for the handle. Really glad I bought these.

  2. One of the best kites I have flown! Overall it's a great kite! I ordered some 50 pound test line for it too and it works great with it!

  3. It's always handy, whenever we go to the beach or the park... Because it's always there bumping around in the back of the car.
The only pain is wrapping up the plastic tails.
But the convenience of having it always there and ready makes up for the inconvenience of the tails, for me.

  4. The kite is a breeze to take out of the package and quickly begin to play. The material is resilient and attractive to boot. The storage bag it comes with is a great idea as well. The only problem I see with the kite is the line that comes with the kite is too short and the spool is difficult to use. I would recommend purchasing a different spool--preferably one which is up to 500 feet. Overall, the kite is great fun!

  5. I haven't flown a kite since I was little and bought two of these for my nephews based on the reviews. These kites are absolutely incredible. Not only are they very easy to fly, but they are impossible to break since they have no frame. I flew these with my 3 and 5-year old nephews and we had a great time. Terrific, terrific product.

  6. Sent it to my nephew for his 10th birthday- lots of wind in San Francisco, he is really thrilled and I am a happy auntie.

  7. Bought two of these kites (plus two additional 500 ft. spools of string) for my boys to take to the beach on spring break. There's nothing to put together so we just pulled them out of the packages and within seconds the kites were up in the air. So easy to fly! When finished, the kites simply fold up nice and compact so we can store them in a large ziplock bag and keep them in the minivan for impromptu kite flying on windy days. Great purchase!
