Blingn Aquamaine Facted Bead Charm

Bling Jewelry Sterling Birthstone Aquamarine

To those of you unfamiliar with Crack The Sky, start here. Right here. This is a great career retrospective of CTS, especially as these concerts (there are 2 of them, though the later of the two is incomplete) feature 4/5 of the original band. Song selection is outstanding, as is the audio quality (thanks Joe!). And this band rocks. Seriously rocks. The twin lead guitars of Rick Witkowsky and Bobby Hird are terrific, the rhythm team of Joe Macre and Joey D'Amico is rock solid, Glenn Workman's keyboard work adds the "prog rock" element and frontman/wiseguy John Palumbo is...well...John Palumbo.

If you have been thinking of checking CTS out and don't know where to start, start here. Pick your favorite tunes and seek out the albums those tunes are found on and you'll be on your way.

This is one of those items I wish I could bring to your house and force you to watch.

HIGHLY recommended to those of you who enjoy a bit of "prog" mixed in with your rock.

Necco Sky Bar 36 count

I have been an Owl City fan for a few years and I was so excited when I got an e-mail (I'm on Adam Young's e-mail list) saying that he was releasing a CD of his earliest music recordings. I was hoping it would be the exact same as his other music. What is actually is is even better.
The first time I listened to the whole CD through I thought it was okay, but the second time through I fell head over heels in love. I can not stop listening to this album (and I got it in September). You can tell by listening to the music that it is Adam Young, yet it is distinctly different than Owl City music. The style is slower and the lyrics deeper. The songs are incredibly well written, reflect Adam's life, and completely draw you in. There is really no way of understanding the music unless you listen to it. It's absolutely beautiful. I listen to this album more than I listen to any other Owl City album. It is absolutely worth the money!

Monkee Leaves Tree, Does Good

car stereo Magnetic South Salute Michael Nesmith

Magnetic South Salute Michael Nesmith

This is classic country-rock coming from Michael Nesmith right off the heels of his stint with the Monkees. Nesmith had already shown his country-flavor tendencies with many of his songs for the Monkees, some of which weren't released until the 90's.

On his first solo album, Magnetic South, Nez takes several of these unreleased Monkees tunes and beautifully does them again, with the help of fantastic steel-guitarist Red Rhodes, who almost steals the show with a few songs. Magnetic South is one of those few albums where EVERY song is a good listen, from track 1 to track 11.

The 2nd album in this collection is Loose Salute, which didn't quite live up to the strength of Magnetic, but is still quite solid. Its opener, "Silver Moon", is a top 5 Nez song. Nesmith also redoes his Monkees hit "Listen To The Band," which is unlike the original, but still good (in a different way). I particularly like "Conversations."

The bottom line here is you CANNOT go wrong with this album. It is worth every penny and you won't regret it!

shoes Mohu Ultimate Amplified Indoor Antenna

Mohu Ultimate Amplified Indoor Antenna

I live in San Diego and the antenna receives all of our TV Stations, including the subchannels like ME-TV, Cozi-TV, This-TV, and Antenna-TV. Additionally I receive KTLA out of Los Angeles which is over 100 miles away! KTLA is famous in this area for providing better Rose Bowl parade coverage than any commercial network. I also receive other stations from Los Angeles, including KNBC and KLCS (PBS). Being close to the border, I receive quite a few stations from Tijuana, Mexico (no surprise). I recently switched from Time-Warner Cable to DIRECTV, which is a better service in my area, but does not carry the subchannels broadcasting classic TV shows (Me-TV, Cozi-TV, etc). The Leaf antenna is a great supplement to my satellite service.

It did not work well initially when I placed it on the wall above the television. I wasn't able to receive all local stations and none at all from Los Angeles. I later taped it to a window and that improved reception 300%!!! Only a rooftop antenna would get better reception.

I was also very surprised at its very light weight. It's not much heavier than a regular edition of "Time" Magazine. Recommend finding a way to place it on a window. Tape will secure it fine.

Definitely worth the money. I am so pleased with this antenna that I ordered a second one for another room.

LG Electronics HBS 730 Tone Bluetooth

I have had mine for about a week now. I paired them first with my Iphone 4S, no problem at all. Took about 15 seconds. The sound is quite good, better than I expected, better in fact than my older wired Bose ear buds.

The range on the bluetooth is about what I expected, I easily get 30 or so feet of distance from my phone before sounds cut out.

As a phone headset it has been great, very comfortable and no issues with sound on my end or the other. I have been on several long conference calls and found no discomfort in wearing the headset for extended periods of time.

Still working out all the kinks using the multi-point capability, but I have successfully paired the headset with my Lenovo laptop (after loading the updated bluetooth driver from Lenovo).

Battery life seems fine so far, but a week of burn-in is not enough to make a full judgment on the battery.

I like it enough I have already recommended it to friends.

Another reviewer wrote that he loved the album but had a hard time staying with Murdoch in the emotional terrain that he mines in "Time without consequences". I can relate because Murdoch is a rare artist that can write soul wrenching lyrics of introspection and yearning and emotionally deliver them with his vocals. John Trudell, Michael Franti, Bruce Cockburn, and Bob Dylan are a few that come to mind with that rare combination of ablilities. It is road rarely travelled by most singer songwriters being that most don't have the ability or at best flirt with it instead of committing to it.
The album is bold and haunting being that most of the songs don't particularly have a chorus or normal song structures. The songs kind of ebb and flow culminating into min-folk orchestras by the end of some of them. Some of Alexi's lyrics can be unintenitionally challenging like "Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning... ...We'll actually most of the time" in "I had a dream I could fly". This music is intense and soul searching not for the faint of heart!!!

Scorn Defeat Sigh

Yes, 5 stars to a Japanese death metal band that no one has ever heard of. This album is pretty hard to find where im from in the midwest. I rarely meet someone who has heard of Sigh which is a shame because they are one of the most talented, creative, and original bands ive ever heard. The guitar work is incredible and every instrument is played with precision and beauty yet still has a rough, pounding, eerie aura to it. Sigh isnt just your normal guitar, drums, and bass either. They play so many different instruments on this album i cannot even name them all. The only downside is the vocals which really arent bad but with music this beautiful it needs a little bit of a break from the high shrieking and could use some singing. This is not radio-friendly music but i will keep it on my top 10 list for years to come. Buy it!!

Was glad to receive this and played it almost immediately. Within the last year I purchased the SHM CD from Japan of this title and that was an improvement over the domestic issue. This was a digital recording so I was not expecting a vast improvement. Immediately upon starting the Audio Fidelity version I knew this was even better than the SHM CD version. There was more life to it and more punch when punch was there. All around this was a much better sounding issue. Let's hope Audio Fidelity continues to issue great sounding issues. Their recent Audio Fidelity release of Styx's The Grand Illusion Grand Illusionwas not anywhere near as good as the Japanese SHM CD version Grand Illusion (Mlps) (Shm). I would like to see some sort of consistency here, whether it be Audio Fidelity or Japanese but at this point there does not seem to be any, the wallet is just getting lighter due to this. I would rather buy the Audio Fidelity product only but there are times when the Japanese import is vastly superior.

Tower Babel Bodie Hodge

The events detailed in Genesis 10-11 are often quickly glanced over during many Bible studies today. Sons of Noah...blah blah blah...Tower of Babel...blah blah blah. Bodie Hodge in Tower of Babel:The Cultural History of Our Ancestors bring s us back and asks us to consider the true implications of the events that immediately followed The Flood.

With a combination of sources Hodge lays out a very probable hypothesis for the paths that the founders of human civilizations took. If you love history and the Bible, you will enjoy reading this book. Although the defense of the events in Genesis are very important today, and Hodge takes this very seriously throughout the book, he presents his ideas in easy to read and understand ways. I never found myself lost in his presentations or having to go back and re-read things.

Primal Shift Post Apocalyptic Thriller ebook

An airplane screaming down the runway, soon to be in flames...
A routine coast guard rescue off the Golden Gate Bridge... until the bodies hit the water...
A new age snake oil salesman, a self-described rat, ready to do whatever it takes to thrive or survive... even murder.
...and a man with no name, no memory, who wakes up in bizarre a lab covered in pink goo.

These and more serve as our eyes to witness the beginning of the end: a mysterious world wide event that shakes the surface of the earth and shatters the skies. This is the way the world ends, with a tremor and a shimmer, and a sky full of lights that send most of humanity into madness. Glimpses of an event that seems to send the minds of mankind back to the stone age, or worse. Chaos, carnage, confusion. And, crawling forth from the rubble, a handful of survivors trying to figure out how the heck world went so sour. And what caused it all.

PRIMAL SHIFT is a fantastic read, and a welcome sight among the ever growing mountain of doomsday literature. There aren't zombies or werewolves but good old fashioned mystery and chaos and characters one can quickly care about among the ruins of civilization. It's true horror told by a fresh voice, it doesn't get better than that. You're in great hands for this ride, as Griffin Hayes is a master storyteller; he tears the world apart and makes you beg for more, more, more.

I'll be there for Episode 2, eagerly awaiting the end of world.

Wonderful Pastels

printed pencil skirt Mount Vision Pastel Company Thunderstorm

Mount Vision Pastel Company Thunderstorm

I've tried just about all the brands of pastels available now. In the scheme of things I'd rate these in the middle as far as hardness...maybe a touch closer to the hard side. They're airy, not dense (like Rembrandts)...and since I tend to like to press just a tad harder than is good for the very soft pastels (where I might get too much pastel in the paper), for that reason, I love them. I might compare them most closely to the Unisons. I find them invaluable for the majority of the painting, especially the first layers after the underpainting, then finishing with Schminke, Sennelier, Ludwig, or Great American. The colors are glorious...especially this set. You know how skies are often drawn too dark and too blue...well these are perfect for light sky and clouds, and moody winter skies. Truly lovely set. Also ordered the small light blue set...equally as beautiful in color and texture. The last set I presently have is the dark earth...yum! Have just ordered the large selection of landscape greens...can't wait to see how those translate. I'm impressed with these, especially for the cost. My intention is to use the Mount Visions as my workhorse set...the ones I can afford to replace frequently, and some of the very soft pastels for the finishing touches. I should also say I use sanded papers...mostly Ampersand Pastelbord, UART, and Wallis...great match!

The Gentleman Rogue ebook

If you have ever wanted to quit your job, try something new, live somewhere different, this is the book for you. This bright and funny couple has done the things that many of us just dream about; living in Mexico, starting a business in Mexico and Australia, living aboard boats at times, all the while surviving on a shoestring and enjoying, always enjoying the adventure. Lots of practical advice, like how to survive a Mexican Jail, or make money for dinner, or cook some really great desserts too!

Although not a sailing adventure book, this true life journey that opens in a storm at sea had me white knuckled from the first chapter, when their sail from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta is challenged by an epic storm with 40 foot waves and 50 knots of wind! Weather that would have challenged a boat 10 times the size of their 30 foot wooden sailboat, a storm that kept the skipper constantly at the wheel, and his mate down below handing up provisions. She was lucky; she didn't know enough to be terrified.
This is a must read for the armchair sailor, the cook, and the avid traveler. Great fun, Great read!

Review from the Canadian Premiere at TAD Film Fest

bike trailer review Manborg Matthew Kennedy

Manborg Matthew Kennedy

Astron 6 has done it again with another awesome movie to stand along the recent father's day! This is low budget filmmaking at its very, very best, Manborg is a throwback to cheesy Sci-Fi's of the 80s with lots of references to classic films but is 100% original, pure entertainment from start to finish with crazy low rent green screen effects and cheesy acting and dubbing and dialogue but its totally fantastic, the movie is made this way on purpose so make sure you know what your getting yourself into when you watch it, great cast as usual, brilliant bad guys the make-up effects and gore are awesome!! The soundtrack is great too especially on the cool open credit sequence, this is a modern Grindhouse style cult classic and must be seen, fantastic special features too and commentary, a bargain at any cost!!

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000

This keyboard is the most comfortable and best looking keyboard I've ever owned. When you place your hands on the keys, it feels like a natural hand position with subtle curves on both sides of the board. The cushioned palm rest is well-made and runs the entire bottom length of the keyboard and really puts this keyboard in it's own category as far as quality goes. I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone that types for long stretches of time, and also for my fellow gamers that require the best keyboard on the market, and blind key recognition.

There are an adequate number of shortcut and programmable keys (five), although, they decided against putting a dedicated "My Documents" key, which I would have liked.

In summary: All things considered, this is now the best keyboard on the market.

Devin Castile is Hot!

lens review A Terrible Love ebook

A Terrible Love ebook

My Rant:
This book was amazing, erotic and filled with action. The author painted the picture brilliantly. I love the way Marata wrote in the POV of the characters because it gave you the different views of the story being told. Jess was fragile and weak but has enough strength to continue on even if the life she was living now was a complete lie. Jess had a lot of personality but she kept it enclosed. She could not be who she really wanted to be without the fear of everyone figuring out who she really was. Jess was so used to her pretend alias that she forgot about life and enjoying it until she met Mitch and Devin. Mitch was hot but Devin Castile was the icing to the cake. What women wouldn't want any two men fighting over her especially when they are sexy as hell. Devin Castile seemed to start a heat wave any time the character came on the scene. He was yet hardcore but gentle at the same time. You love him and hate him because you feel like he is somewhat disconnected. Mitch was easy. He seemed to be the boy from around the way that made you feel safe. But by choosing from the two I say I would choose Devin just because I love Bad Boys. From the beginning of the book you long to hate Thad who is the villain of this story, and you wonder to yourself what made him the way he was. I mean some people are born disagreeable but I always seem to believe it is one catastrophic moment in their lives that tip the scale to the dark side. I always seem to say it is harder being good than it is being bad. Thad was the villain everyone could hate so easily, I should know I hated him from the minute I began book. But what made him the perfect villain was that his plots were really cunning. Thad had the ability to get away with murder because he was a genius at what he did. Marata engages you in the story but also keeps you guessing by the constant twist and turns to the schemes. The romance is off the charts when the character collide but the romance takes you on a roller-coaster ride when it appears the romance is a little one sided. The ending blew me away completely. I was emotional wreck trying to get through it. But when you get to the end you have a sense of satisfaction because things turn out the way you hope they would but your shocked at the ending because there is so much loss that you don't think there is an happy ending awaiting you.

My recommendation:
I rated this book 5 of 5 purple rant hearts. Marata is such a talented writer and through A terrible Love she has proven to her readers that she can easily be a writing chameleon. If you enjoy contemporary romance then you should definitely read this book.

From what I understand, season five (5) of "Pie in the sky" is the last season for this great British series. After viewing Season five (5) of the series, the aforesaid fact saddens me a great deal because, per usual, this season has loads of gorgeous food for me to salivate over, wonderful mysteries that kept me guessing "who done it" combined with loads of humor that kept me laughing out loud.

Season five (5) on three (3) discs with eight (8) episodes is superbly directed and acted. Richard Griffiths as Henry Crabbe the proud and dedicated owner and chef of the restaurant "Pie in the Sky "plus being a very good detective solving heinous crimes is delightful in those dual roles in the series. Maggie Steed, as his accountant wife is wonderful supplying many very funny moments especially when she gets in the middle of one of Crabbe's crime cases as she does in this splendid Series five (5).

After viewing Series five (5) of "Pie in the Sky" I know that I will sorely miss this program. This season just reeked of good food, good mysteries and humor.

Great book with a great hook

printed pencil skirt The Dark City Relic Master

The Dark City Relic Master

Catherine Fisher's (far too short) "Incarceron" series made me a fan. Her new series (at least, new for North America - the UK has had this series for around ten years now) is just as good, though in another different, bleak yet beautiful world.

The pace of this book is brisk, but that only adds to its sheer beauty. In parts you can feel the bucolic scenery as lush and warm as if it were real when Galen and Raffi make their trek to the Dark City. You get chilled by the cold and wet from the rain - all of my senses were linked and enhanced in a way that is different from the way I experienced the "Incarceron" series. Perhaps because of the element of magic over a technological dystopia has something to do with it, but I just fell in love with Fisher's amazing ability as a writer all over again repeatedly throughout this book.

I love how she always drops hints of things to come, and saves the shock (be it subtle or loud and obvious) until the end; it could be that this world, Anara, is one from an alternate human history that has not yet been charted. I love that idea, and I can't wait to see where she goes with this.

You can bet I've already marked the rest of the series (coming out all this year!) for preorder on my list.

An evocative read

wotches man Song Silk Road Mingmei Yip

Song Silk Road Mingmei Yip

Song of the Silk Road is a novel of finding who you are and all of the avenues open to you. Lily Lin, a writer and waitress, is shocked when a letter arrives stating the has inherited three million dollars, if she meets the stipulations. Lily finds this hard to believe, considering she had to scrape the money together to bury both of her parents and also because she has never heard of this aunt, Mindy Madison.

But eventually the lawyer tracks down Lily in person and she decides to try and meet the terms of Mindy's will - one thousand miles on the Silk Road in China, the same route Mindy took and doing the same things that Mindy did. Some of the things that Lily has to do are really bizarre, and all along the journey, a young man called Alex, whom she refused to travel with, keeps popping up at different opportune times.

The background painted by Yip is beautiful and mesmerizing. So many traditions in China that will really keep your attention. Lily's trip is a journey of the heart, one where she begins to know herself and that of her parents. Lily is a very likable character and the writing is poignant and really captures the readers attention. The difference between China and New York is very prominent and really lends credence to the story. Filled with adventure, romance, suspense and deft, capable writing, Song of the Silk Road is an evocative read!

La Beauté retrouve ses lettres de noblesse...

ring The Italian Pleasures Gabriele Paterkallos

The Italian Pleasures Gabriele Paterkallos

In the creation of THE ITALIAN PLEASURES OF GABRIELE PATERKALLOS, brilliant young author and Byronic/Homeric scholar, Pietros Maneos, has rediscovered the importance and impact of an epistolary correspondence.

Before knowledge and culture were trivialized by the internet and media sound bites, and intellectuals were branded as nerds, all important knowledge was conveyed through the journals and letters of eminent scientists, historians, politicians, poets, authors, and theologians who were then known and respected scholars and worthy intellectuals.

The great historiographer, Georg Hegel, took this epistolary knowledge to a new dimension by creating and perfecting the dialectic--a method by which two people of knowldege come to learn from each other through conversation--spoken or written--and as a result come to a higher understanding, thus advancing civilization through the acquisition of higher, broader knowledge.

Maneos, in his epistolary work, has skillfully brought this form of intellectualism back to life. And, you, the reader will be wooed, seduced, and captivated by the character of Gabriele Paterkallos through his on-going epistolary relationship with Odysseus Pane.

Maneos' challenging and engrossing style is enhanced by his adept skill as a wordsmith, thus bring ing about a style of prose that is melodic and poetic. As a result, THE ITALIAN PLEASURES OF GABRIELE PATERKALLOS is a beautifully orchestrated novella.

Many accolates to Mr. Maneos for bring ing this type of literary correspondence back to life. Hence, Pietros Maneos has advanced the classic notions of art and beauty--Intellectualism is indeed Reborn!

Pros:
-----
Doubles your lens collection. My son has a 90mm mak-cass. He has two lenses that yield 50X and 75X. The barlow doubles them to 50X, 75X, 100X, 150X. This is about as large as a 90mm can go.

I use this barlow on my Dobsonian. I like having more magnification without reducing the exit hole on my eyepiece. Some eyepieces are not as good around the edges. A barlow gives a larger clear spot while increasing magnification. This is win/win. I often use the barlow, even if I have a lens that will yield the same magnification.

Cons:
-----
A barlow will give good magnification on items that can be magnified, such as the moon and planets. When looking at deep sky objects, I often like wider fields and lower magnification.

This particular barlow offers great bang for the buck.

Twinkle Lullaby

Rather than repeat the book jacket's description, which was accurate, I will tell you why I like this author's writing. This book lives up to his previous two. I'm waiting for more. Unfortunately I finished this one in 8 leisurely hours. His writing has a tendency to get me to do this.

SHORT CHAPTERS:
This is not a preference of lazy readers, but a nice means of completing a scene, so you can digest it. Also does make for great breaking points when the real world interferes in your reading.
STUFF IS WRAPPED UP:
Many writers introduce a bunch of things that when the story is all done just hang unanswered. In this book as in the author's previous two books, you have your answers.
SCIENCE IS OUT THERE, BUT EXPLAINED:
Okay, a breach, or worm hole is out there, artifacts way out there, but in the context of the book it is all explained.
BOOK STANDS ALONE:
As the author's previous book (Ghost Country) which I read before his first (The Breach) it stands alone. You get enough back story even if you have not read the first. There were a few references, that were not well explained (the Blackbird), that even if you had read the others, you would still be sketchy as it has been sometime, but for the most part, you have what you need. However I would say it is more fun to know the backstory.
GRADUALLY TEACHES YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Just like David Brin (Uplift Series, The Postman) does in many of his books, you are gradually taught what you need to know; to understand the universe you are being dropped into. This is a real skill. You get told what you need to know, when you need to know it, but not in a lecturing fashion.
GREAT WRITING:
The story moves along, you get the characters, why they do what they do. You also can anticipate some things. This is a cool thing that some great authors can do to make you feel smart. Dan Brown (DaVinci Code) is a master at this.

Contra

Well it is to me. Not since NWA's Straight Outta Compton have I enjoyed a record so much, yet related to the lyrics so little. This is a great, great album. They are great musicians and songwriters and the arrangements are quite interesting.
I remember going through a Paul Simon phase and thinking about how I'd like to start a band that copped that sound a little bit, and Vampire Weekend do that, but in their own unique and fun way.
I don't own the first album (GASP!) not yet anyway so I can't make any comparisons but for me this album stands on it's own.

I bought mine direct from the Vampire Weekend website and when you buy (the vinyl) through them (Kung Fu Nation), you get an instant MP3 download AND the record comes with a bonus CD of unreleased re-mixes.
If you do buy it from Kung Fu you will notice they charge $10 shipping but if you call them they will tell you how you can have it sent mediamail for 3.50.

Review - Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

bike trailer Let Sky Fall Shannon Messenger

Let Sky Fall Shannon Messenger

After being a book reviewer for a time, I was burnt out. I haven't felt the urge to write one, no matter how deep my love for books runs, in well over a year. Until this book. There are always certain parts of a book that I love the most. Plot, character, dialogue , world building etc. It's not often that you find a book that has it all. LET THE SKY FALL does.

The settings, the plot, the dialogue all of it combined were like a tornado, which sucked me up and spun me round and round with these characters as they endured obstacle after obstacle. I constantly found myself stopping simply so I could go back and relive parts of the book. It was dramatic in all the right spots, sweet and funny right when it needed to be, and the gifts of some of the characters are down right brilliant.

Then there's Audra--please take a moment to admire THAT fantastic name--while all the characters are beautifully developed Audra shines the most for me. This character is heartbreakingly loyal and strong. Not because the author wrote that in the book, but because she MADE the character that way. There's a difference. The character is put through the fire and comes out on the other side. Still standing. She breaks, but she puts herself back together. She loses it, but she pulls it back together. And each time it's always better, stronger, more beautiful. Audra is a heroine worthy of teens, young adults, and even adults. She inspires independence, loyalty, endurance. And in the end she leaves you with a message. You must come first. You must fulfill your own self. Now, don't get me wrong. There is teen love. There is that young desperation. And it's SO GOOD. But more, Audra shows you that finding love does not make you whole. You make you whole, and you don't have to skip over yourself to have love.

The only downfall to a good book is when it's over. If you are like me you tend to overly invest yourself in the world of the book and dang near feel empty when it's over. NOT THIS BOOK. I read the ending twice. I simply could not believe how much I loved it. Hope and an expectant eye to what is to come is what I was left with. That might just be the most amazing part of the entire book.

Rust Oleum 1974502 Painters Touch Semi Gloss

Goes on silky, dries quickly with a great "skin" -- I SHOULD have used primer on the (poplar) wood but the Rustoleum was forgiving enough and gave me a tough weatherproof finish. Next -- I will paint my old exercise cycle - I already did a test strip of it and the Rustoleum looks great -- I will not sand this cycle because it is so old that the old paint may be lead-based, so I will just put a couple of coats of Hunter Green on it -- 2 days apart (I am doing this on my balcony, in the sun) and let it be -- it's not like I am going for any awards -- I just want to use the cycle without staring at the rust spots.

Next project will be some old weathered wooden lattice-- I already did a test strip on that and it is soaking up the paint. I know it WILL look good after 2 coats.

I've been using Rustoleum paints for over 35 years - when it still contained (25%) Menhaden fish oil in the base-- and (LOL) once when I had used the base coat inside my car's fender wells and had all the doors and windows open to air and dry it out, a neighbor's cat waltzed into my car and snif sniff sniffed -- trying to find out where the fishies were.

If you have never had the opportunity to be introduced to Swartwood and Silva working together (or separately) I have to admit I'm almost a little jealous. Because you will be meeting 2 writers that are a definite gift to people that like a good story. Reading their work is rather like walking into a local, familiar bar and seeing the person you hope to spend the rest of your life with. Then, if you are extremely lucky, you are still with them many years later and they can still deliver. Luckily for us, neither Robert nor David have been destroyed by the publishing industry, or burned out so they are just churning out pap for the masses just for the money.
This book reads fast at only 151 pages, but manages to leave you with more story than is just carried in the words. There is a wonderfully complete world that is built on our world during the days of the westward expansion. This includes justice, vengeance, shoot outs, corruption, murder and a different twist on the zombie idea. What starts out looking like a typical "dusty trails" western turns into a trip into the darkest parts of the human psyche and what we would do in our pain.
Luckily for me, I was able to get one of the beautiful, signed, limited edition copies originally available through Thunderstorm Books (now sold out, but they have some other beautifully bound books available). So, the rest of you will just have to settle for the copies more readily available through Amazon as a print or e-book. Sadly, David B. Silva has "walked the sky" so is no longer available to provide us with even more stories, luckily he left behind many books for us to continue to enjoy. Happily, Robert Swartwood is still with us to feed our desire for more good tales.

Woolrich Womens First Forks Tee

FIT : I'm 5'3, 135lbs. I wanted a relaxed fit. Usually I order a Petite/Med but because of previous review I ordered the P/XL. It's just right. Not too baggy. I love the tunic-like length too. Too many shirts are too short these days. I also like the curved hemline. It's a flattering difference. MATERIAL: Exactly the 100% cotton I prefer. Not the heavier polished weave nor the tissue thin kind. An even knit with a non-clingy drape. Will add info if it doesn't wash well. WORKMANSHIP: Well stiched. Although the eyelet embroidered placket is folded back and stiched so the eyelet holes don't match up. Thus, no skin can show to feature that element. Kind of odd. The Woolrich name is embroidered discretely in same color on the hem. There are same-fabric insets with stiching detail in the sides at hem that I also like. COLOR: I chose the SKY blue. It's more of a gray-blue, but I'm okay with that. OVERALL: Very happy with this. It is a versatile top with jeans, longer shorts or tights. I think it's worth the price. Plan on ordering another in Sea Salt.

AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO CARES ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS

wedding dress Half the Sky ebook

Half the Sky ebook

This book blew my mind wide open, and put me into high gear to work to facilitate change so that women will not have to endure such violence and oppression for another century! I bought one for my sister, and her 17 year old daughter read the whole book and was amazed and impressed with its message. I bought it for my Goddaughter, and she is ready to go volunteer in the third world! As for myself, it helped me realized that the rural area I live in is dominated by patriarchy, and that women of color are often treated like slaves and/or whores by the men around here, and most white women are just placated and ignored. It brought out the underlying rage I have deep inside from what we have endured as women, and turned that rage into fuel for action, for making the world a better place for ALL of us, women and men!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in two days... a rarity for me. I do tend to like real-life stories, as this book is, over fiction, but it shares aspects of both. If you enjoy the idea of piloting, it does give some insight into the life and struggles of a commercial pilot, however, its main focus is the negatives of alcoholism and how it can destroy ones life and those close to you. It illustrates the realities of the "Adult Children of Alcoholics" syndrome and carries the reader from the ideal life to the ramifications of excessive drinking to recovery. Whether you have a substance abuse problem or not, it truly is a good read and offers hope for recovery for those who are addicted. Although the ending is predictable, I enjoyed it from cover to cover.
